As a micro-ecosystem,the intestinal flora is closely related to the health of the body. Studies have confirmed that berberine, the main component of coptis chinensis, can prevent intestinal infectious diseases caused by intestinal micro-ecological imbalance by regulating the structure, species and abundance of intestinal flora and producing active metabolites, and the role of treatment. This review summarizes the effects and mechanism of berberine on intestinal flora found in the current study, and provides reference materials for the development of new berberine drugs and dietary supplements in the future.
