Abstract:
Objective: The experimental study on the relieving cough, expectoration, relieving asthma effects of naringenin on animal.Method: The cough models induced by ammonia liquor in mice and citric acid in guinea pigs were used to observe the antitussive effects. The methods of phenol red excretion in mice were used to investigate the expectorant effects. Bronchial asthma model induced by histamine phosphate in guinea pigs was used to observe the antiasthmatic effects.Result: The experimental result showed that naringenin could dose dependent to extend ammonia spraying time which could cause half of the mice cough, naringenin low dose group could decrease the frequency of cough inducd by citric acid in guinea pigs ( p < 0.01) , naringenin high dose group could prolong the latent period of cough inducd by citric acid in guinea pigs ( p < 0.01) , extension rate was 165.3%, and decrease the frequency of cough ( p < 0.01) . Naringenin high dose group could also obviously increase the mice tracheal phenol red output ( p < 0.05) ; Sputum excretion rate was 150.9% and naringenin high dose group could obviously prolong the latent period of asthma induced by histamine phosphate in guinea pigs ( p < 0.01) , the extension rate was 242.2%. Conclusion: The naringenin has significant antitussive, expectorant and antiasthmatic effects.
