Abstract:
Coenzyme-Q10, also known as a lipophilic quinone compound widely-existing in living organisms, is an important component of the electron transport chain in mitochondria. As the activator for the cell respiration and metabolism, it can promote oxidation reaction and phosphating reaction, and be responsible for generation of energy. In this paper, the physiological functions of coenzyme-Q10on the anti-oxidation, immunity-enhancing, heart-strengthening, brainpower-promoting and hypolipidemic were reviewed. In addition, the therapeutic role of coenzyme-Q10, including but not confined to neurodegenerative disorders, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and its application in the food industry were also summarized. At last, the outlook for research directions and application of coenzyme-Q10were concluded.
