Research Progress on Hypoglycemic Mechanism of Plant Polyphenols

  • Polyphenols are the secondary metabolites of plants, which widely exist in nature, including flavonoids, tannins, chlorogenic acid and so on. Many studies have shown that regular intake of vegetables, fruits and beverages rich in polyphenols can slow down the occurrence and development of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and other chronic metabolic diseases and even cancer. In this paper, plant polyphenols regulating blood sugar by promoting insulin synthesis and secretion, inhibiting glucose transport and regulating intestinal flora are reviewed, so as to provide theoretical basis for the hypoglycemic function of plant polyphenols.
