Intervention of Roselle Flower Polysaccharide on Acute Liver Injury in Rats

  • Intervention effect of roselle polysaccharide extract on the model of acute liver injury in Wister rats was studied. The rat model of acute liver injury was established by the method of ethanol gavage. The model rats were divided into model group, treatment group (1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0 g/kg roselle polysaccharide), positive group (Alcoholic medicine 10 mg/kg BW), while the healthy rats were as the normal group. All the groups were continues treated for 7 d, and the carotid blood was collected. The serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alkaline phosphate enzyme (ALP) and cholinesterase (CHE) activity and total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), globulin (GLB), and glutathione (GSH) contents were determined. The liver weight and liver index were calculated. And the section of liver tissue was observed. The effect of roselle polysaccharide extract on the intervention of rats with acute liver injury was comprehensively evaluated. The results showed that, compared with the model group, the serum ALT, AST, and ALP activities of 4.0 g/kg roselle treatment group extremely significantly reduced (P<0.01), and the TP and GLB contents significantly reduced (P<0.05), while the CHE activity significantly increased (P<0.05), which indicated that the roselle polysaccharide had a certain stabilizing effect on the body weight of ALD rats, and could effectively reduce gastric ulcers, liver swelling and hepatocyte degeneration and necrosis. The roselle polysaccharide extract has good interventional treatment and liver protection ability in rats with acute liver injury, and has good development and application potential.
