Inactivation of Staphylococcal Enterotoxin B by Low Temperature Plasma

  • Staphylococcal enterotoxin B(SEB)shock mouse model was used to evaluate the inactivation effect of low temperature plasma on SEB. The experiment was set as blank control group, positive group and three treatment groups(plasma degradation treatment of SEB for 10,20 and 30 min groups),observing for 120 h after injecting SEB,the survival time and the weight of every mouse was recorded. And the activities of catalase(CAT),superoxide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)in the mice liver were measured. The results showed that the contents of SEB were decreased with the prolonging of plasma treatment time, and the maximum degradation rates of SEB were 96% when SEB was treated for 30 min. Compared with the positive group, the mean survival time of mice in treatment SEB for 10,20 and 30 min groups was significantly extended(P<0.05),which was 2.50,3.33 and 5.00 times of the positive group, respectively. The average body weight of mice in treatment SEB for 30 min group was significantly increased than that in positive group(P<0.05). And the activity of CAT,SOD and GSH-Px in the liver of mice in treatment SEB for 30 min group was significantly increased(P<0.05),which was 69.33%,74.93% and 47.92% higher than that in the positive group, respectively. The conclusion was that low temperature plasma treatment could reduce SEB contents,so as to improve the activity of antioxidant enzyme in mice, enhance body immunity and prolong survival time which had time-dependent.
