Effects of Thaumatin on Blood Glucose and Blood Lipid in Mice

  • In this experiment,thaumatin feed and sucrose feed with the same sweetness were used as a cross-control,and The C5BL/6J mice were used as the experimental objects to pass the food preference test,which verified that the feeding preference of mice for thaumatin feed reached more than 99%,which was the same as the preference of mice for sucrose. Through immunohistochemical experiments,the number of activated cells in the ventral tegmental region of the midbrain responsible for rewarding was 116 after thaumatin was ingested,which was not statistically different from that induced by sucrose. Mice with abnormal glucose tolerance and insulin resistance were established through the continuous four-week high-sugar diet,to study whether eating thaumatin with high sweetness would have adverse effects on the metabolism of blood glucose and lipid in mice under the same conditions. The results showed that the fasting glucose of mice was(6.29±0.25) mmol/L after feeding thaumatin diet with high sweetness for four weeks,which showed no significant difference from the control group(6.29±0.22) mmol/L.The fasting insulin was(0.93±0.08) nmol/L,which was not significantly increased compared with the control group,and the insulin resistance index was 0.26±0.02,which was the same as the control group. Compared with the control group,the serum triglyceride concentration and serum cholesterol concentration in thaumatin group were(3.45±0.099) mmol/L and(1.34±0.030) mmol/L respectively. The results of this study showed that the intake of thaumatin with food can cause the same level of reward effect as sucrose,and the continuous consumption of thaumatin in mice did not cause symptoms of hyperglycemia,hyperlipidemia and insulin resistance compared with sucrose consumption.
