Effect of Curcumin on Lowering Uric Acid and Protection of Liver and Kidney in Hyperuricemia Mice

  • To investigate the effect of curcumin of lowering uric acid and protection of liver and kidney in hyperuricemia mice induced by potassium oxonate,hyperuricemia-mice model with intraperitoneal injection of potassium oxinate was established, and curcumin optimal dosage was determined for the abirritation effect of hyperuricemia gout. To evaluate the effect of curcumin on lowering uric acid and protect liver and kidney, the mice serum uric acid(UA),xanthine oxidase(XOD),aspertate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),creatinine(CRE),urea nitrogen(BUN)level, and calculated mice liver-kidney coefficient were detected, and the liver and kidney tissue pathological changes after HE staining was observed. The results showed that, compared with the blank control group, curcumin could prolong the pain threshold in mice, and the difference was the most significant in the 85 mg·kg-1 dose group(P<0.01),in which the pain threshold was prolonged from(18.7±2.6) s to (23.6±2.7) s after administration. Curcumin could extremly significantly reduce the level of mice serum UA,XOD,CRE and BUN(P<0.01),significant downregulate AST and ALT(P<0.05),improve liver and kidney tissue morphology and reduce liver-kidney coefficient singnificantly(P<0.05). Therefore,it can be inferred that curcumin can significantly reduce the level of uric acid in hyperuricemia mice, and has the effect of protecting liver and kidney.
