Research Progress of Antihypertensive Bioactive Substances and Their Extracting Technologies from Brown Algae

  • Brown algae, as an important marine resource in China, which is rich for various nutritious and bioactive substances. It has been becoming a studying hotspot for finding the foodborne antihypertensive bioactive substances from brown algae recent years. This paper summarized the antihypertensive functions of bioactive substances in brown algae, which including peptides, amino acids, algae polyphenols, carotenoids, polysaccharides and other substances. Their extracting technologies were stated and analyzed. It was suggested that the antihypertensive bioactive substances could be produced as by products through brown algae processing and utilization. Those substances could be further used as the main materials for the development of functional foods.
