Effect of Lactobacillus Plantarum KLDS 1.0386on the cholesterol metabolism in C57BL/6 mice

  • Objective: It was evaluated that the effect of Lactobacillus plantarum KLDS strain on the cholesterol metabolism in hyperlipidemia mice and zhe ability under simulated gastric and intestinal juice. Method: Viable count was used to detect the tolerance characteristics under simulated gastric and intestinal juice environment.Health C57 BL/6 male mice, as objects, were divided into control group, model group, low-dose group, high-dose group and pravastatin group, which were respectively given normal saline, Lactobacillus plantarum KLDS 1.0386 bacteria suspension and pravastatin solution by gavage for 4 consecutive weeks. The liver levels of total cholesterol ( TC) , triglyceride ( TG) and the feces levels of TC, total bile acid ( TBA) were determined on the 28 th day of the experiment. Results: It showed that the tolerance rate in gastric juice p H3.0 was 92.62%, and the intestinal juice was 83.91%, so, Lactobacillus plantarum KLDS 1.0386 can pass the stomach into the intestines and keep active in the gut. After 4 weeks administration, compared with mice fed a high-cholesterol diet without lactic acid bacteria supplementation, there was a significant ( p < 0.05) decrease in triglyceride and total cholesterol levels in the hepatic of mice treated with KLDS 1.0386 strain. Furthermore, total cholesterol and total bile acid levels in the feces were significantly ( p <0.05) increased after KLDS 1.0386 administration.Concluton: Lactobacillus plantarum KLDS 1.0386 could be as the probiotics with cholesterol-lowering activity.
