Advances on research and applications of Hippophea rhamnoides

  • Hippophae rhamnoides is a kind of medicinal and edible plant, rich in vitamins, polysaccharides, amino acids, organic acids and several trace elements human body needs and other nutrients, and contains a large amount of flavonoids, triterpenoid, steroids, 5-serotonin, proanthocyanidins and other biological active substances as well.Research reports conducted all over the world indicated that eating H.rhamnoides exerted effects of anti-tumor, anti-aging, improving brain function, promoting blood circulation, lowering blood glucose, improving lipid metabolism etc. H. rhamnoides had not only possessed high values of nutrition, but also had health-keeping and medicine. This mini-review paper mainly described the research status quo of nutrition and health-keeping function of each part of H. rhamnoides including fruits, leaves, seeds, and their possible applications in the fields of food and medicine, analysized the facing problems related with H.rhamnoides industry and poses the corresponding solutions to deal with them, and envisions the prospective of H.rhamnoides research and its application.
