Study on the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic effects of wine combined with onion

  • Objective: Effect of wine combined with onion on blood glucose and blood lipid in diabetic mellitus mice was studied.Method: The diabetic mice model was built by feeding high-fat and high-carbohydrate diet and then injection of streptozotocin ( STZ) .According to body mass and glucose level, the mice were randomly divided into six groups: control group, model group, high, middle and low dose of wine combined with onion group, and positive control ( metformin hydrochloride) group. The mice were perfused once per day for 30 days.Pancreas, liver, fasting blood glucose, blood lipid, insulin levels and the change of oxidative stress were detected.Result: Compared with the DM group, both high dose and middle dose wine combined with onion groups were filled with insulin granules, fatty degeneration of hepatocytes. Pancreas, liver were protected, and then had significant influences on the type 2-diabetic model mice, including reduced blood glucose, increased INS level, and decreased TG and TC levels ( p < 0.05) .Serum SOD was increased, and MDA was decreased ( p < 0.01) . Conclusion: Studies showed that high and middle dose of wine combined with onion can reduce blood glucose, improve lipid disorders and antioxidation function in DM mice.
