Preparation and characterization of Vigna radiata (Linn.) Wilczek starch/PVA composite films

  • The preparation process of Vigna radiata ( Linn.) Wilczek starch ( VWS) /polyvinyl alcohol ( PVA) composite films were introduced and the properties of the film were investigated.This blend film of VWS/PVA was prepared by solution mixing.The mechanical properties of the film were investigated by film forming conditions included the contents of PVA, plasticizers and cross-linkers.Using m ( VWS) : m ( PVA) , content of plasticizer and cross-linker as factors, orthogonal experiments were conducted.The results showed the best film forming technology was 7∶ 3 m ( VWS) ∶ m ( PVA) , 20% glycerol and 8% glyoxal, by which the tensile strength, elongation at break and optical properties of the film was ( 17.3 ± 0.25) MPa, 112% ± 2.15% and28.2% ± 0.23%.The VWS/PVA composite films prepared at the optimum condition had potential application for packaging film and agriculture.
