Research progress on the methods for leaf protein extraction and decoloration

  • Leaf protein concentrate ( LPC) is a valuable and renewable protein resource with high nutritional quality. How to efficiently extract high quality leaf protein is an essential prerequisite to achieve commercial application and make profit.In this review, we summarized the methods commonly used for leaf protein extraction and decoloration, as well as the advantage and disadvantage of different methods.Based on the summary and our previous research, we addressed some of the existing problems for leaf protein extraction and decoloration, and proposed some suggestion on how to optimize the methods when using them in the industry.We expect this critical review can provide some valuable information for improving the potential development of high quality LPC utilization.
