Comprasion of the hypolipidemic activities of water extractions and ethanol extractions from red resberry

  • The hyperlipidemic rat models induced by high-fat feeding were given a gavage of the water extractions, 50%ethanol extractions and 100% ethanol extractions from red raspberry, respectively, for 10 weeks. The gavage amounts depended on 50 mg of extractions per gram of mice weight ( kg·d) and the control group and hyperlipidemic group was treated with normal saline. Some biochemical parameters were detected before and after gavage to evaluate the hypolipidemic activity of red raspberry extractions, including the changes of the body weights and the viscera indexes and atherosclerosis index ( AI) , the levels of serum total cholesterol ( TC) , triglyceride ( TG) , high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ( HDL-C) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol ( LDL-C) , the levels of TC and TG in liver, the levels of TC and total bile acids ( TBA) in faeces of rat model. The results showed that the viscera indexes ( such as heart, kidney, pancreas and liver indexes) of such induced rat models had not changed significantly before and after test, but the AI was significantly reduced ( p < 0.01) after being given the gavage of the red raspberry extractions. Both water extractions and ethanol extractions from red raspberry could decrease the levels of serum TC, TG, LDL-C and the levels of TC, TG in liver and could increase the serum HDL-C levels in such rat models when compared with the control group and hyperlipidemic group. In addition, the red raspberry extractions were proved to have the ability of improving the excretion of TC and TBA and inhibiting the increase of body weights of the hyperlipidemic rat models. And the ethanol extracts from red raspberry showed better effects on the experimentally induced rat models than the water extractions. In conclusion, the red raspberry extractions had the hypolipidemic activity and the ethanol extractions showed better effects on hyperlipidemic rat models.
