Nitrite scavenging effect of phenolic compounds from Lycopus lucidus Turcz.

  • The nitrite scavenging effect of phenolic compounds from Lycopus lucidus Turcz.under the condition of gastric juice in vitro was measured by aminobenzenesulfonic acid-naphthyl ethylenediamine dihydrochloride spectrophotometric method and the nitrite scavenging rate was used as index.Additionally, the phenolic content of free phenolics ( FP) and insoluble cell wall bound phenolics ( ICP) was determined by Folin-Ciocalteus method.Meanwhile, the correlation analysis was established between phenolic content and nitrite scavenging effect. The results showed that good logarithmic curve relationships between the reaction time and extract concentration, and scavenging effect were observed, the correlation coefficient was greater than 0.88. The FP IC50 was in the range of 0.08390.2427 mg/m L and ICP IC50 was in the range of 0.11890.3131 mg/m L, indicating that FP on nitrite removal ability was stronger than ICP. And the FP IT50 value was 9.34518 ~ 22.2861 min, while the ICP IT50 value was0.11100.4613 min, showeing that ICP was faster than FP on nitrite scavenging rate significantly. There was a significant positive correlation between phenol content and removal of nitrite ( p < 0.05) . Compared with VC, the concentration of VC extracted by the local phenolic compound was 10 mg/m L, which was equivalent to the scavenging effect of 1.5 mg/m L on nitrite, and basically all were removed. In conclusion, the phenolic compounds had significant scavenging effect on nitrite.
