Optimization of ultrasonic extraction process of total saponins from Polygonatum odoratum by response surface methodology

  • Based on the single-factor experiments, taking sarsasapogenin as the standard, response surface methodology was employed to optimize the different parameters, which affected the extraction rate of total saponins, and the technology conditions for extraction of total saponins from Polygonatum odoratum were determined. The optimum ultrasonic-assisted extraction conditions were as follows: ultrasonic power of 354 W,ultrasonic time of 31 min and solid-liquid ratio of 1∶ 27( g∶mL).Under these optimized conditions, the extraction rate of total saponins reached 4.72%,which was in good agreement with the predicted value. The method proposed in this study provided a scientific and stable base for further development and utilization of Polygonatum odoratum source as well as new drugs.
