Rapid detection of spore oil from Ganoderma lucidum by portable laser Raman spectroscopy

  • Objective: A method for rapidly discriminating spore oil of Ganoderma lucidum from five normal edible vegetable oils including rapeseed oil, soybean oil, corn oil, sunflower oil and peanut oil by portable laser Raman spectrometry was established. Methods: The Raman spectrum of spore oil from Ganoderma lucidum and five normal edible vegetable oils were obtained after baseline subtracting. Results: Based on the intensity of the peak at1115 cm~(-1)more than that of 350,and the ratio of intensity and area of the peak at 1300 cm~(-1)to 1262 cm~(-1)both greater than two,it could be discriminated spore oil of Ganoderma lucidum from the five other edible vegetable oils.According to the result of Raman spectrum, one suspicious sample was found among 10 different brands of spore oil from Ganoderma lucidum, which was further confirmed to be a adulteration by fatty acids analysis and ergostrol determination. Conclusion: The Raman spectrometry is portable, rapid, and nondestructive, which can be used as a potential detection tool for spore oil from Ganoderma lucidum adulteration. Suspicious samples could be further confirmed through the analysis of the fatty acid composition and determination of ergosterol content.
