Effect of abscisic acid on secondary metabolite production during wound-healing in postharvest tomato fruit

  • The effect of abscisic acid( ABA) on wound- healing, secondary metabolite production and related enzyme activities in postharvest mature green cherry tomato fruit was investigated in this study. Tomato fruit were treated under vacuum with ABA and fluridone( FLD) solution after wounding and allowed to heal in the dark.Weight loss of fruit, total phenol, flavonoids and MDA content, and enzyme activities( PAL,SOD,CAT) in wound tissues were determined every day during storage time. The results indicated that weight loss and MDA content were reduced in ABA- treated tomato fruit compared with control.ABA promoted wound- healing process by enhancing total phenol and flavonoids contents as well as PAL,SOD and CAT activities in wound tissues of tomato fruit. However,FLD treatment had the opposite effects. In conclusion,ABA promoted the synthesis of secondary metabolite production during wound- healing in postharvest tomato fruit.
