Species authority of fish and its derived products in Shanghai by DNA barcoding

  • Objective: To investigate the authority of labeling of fish and its derived products in Shanghai,DNA barcoding was applied to identify fish species.Methods: Based on an animal mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I( COI) gene,63 fish DNA samples were sequenced and aligned to analyze the consistency of labeling name and the true species name. Results: After sequencing and alignment,the true name of 13 fish samples out of 63 was different with the labeling name with the percentage of 20.63%.In addition,19 samples labeled the popular name or the name of a class of fish,with the ratio of 30.16%. Conclusion: At present,the research on species authority identification of fish and its derived products is urgent to develop.The labeled fish species name is disordered and unclear in classification in our country.The fish species authority needs to be normative and regular.
