Effects of aerobic exercise training and curcumin on hepatic glycogen and glucose metabolism signaling pathway of type Ⅱ diabetic rats

  • In order to investigate the influence of aerobic exercise training and curcumin on glycogen and glucose metabolism signaling pathway of type Ⅱ diabetic rats. All rats were divided into the control group( C group),model group( group D),exercise group( S group),curcumin group( H group) and turmeric prime + exercise group( S + H group). The rats in S group and S + H group were given aerobic exercise training for 8 weeks, and in H group and S + H group were given curcumin intervention for 8 weeks.Fasting blood glucose, blood glucose at each time point after oral lucose tolerance test( OGTT),insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, glycogen levels and expressions of hepatic glucose metabolism and insulin signaling molecule mRNA were detected. The results showed that compared with the D group, the glucose values at each time point after OGTT test in the S + H group were lower( p < 0.05). Compared with S and H group, the rats insulin levels, insulin sensitivity index and liver glycogen levels were higher in S + H group( p < 0.05).The relative expressions of glucokinase( GK),glucose transporter protein-2( GLUT2),insulin-like growth factor 1( IGF-1),insulin receptor substrate 1( IRS-1) and Insulin receptor substrate 2( IRS-2) in S + H group were increased in comparison with S and H group( p < 0.05),while glucose regulated protein kinase( GKRP) were reduced( p < 0.05). And the effect of combined intervention was better than single intervention.Aerobic exercise and curcumin could effectively reduce blood sugar levels, improve insulin resistance, and promote glycogen synthesis.
