Effect of Lactobacillus plantarum SCS1 on blood glucose levels in hyperglycemia model mice

  • The effect on body weight and blood glucose levels in hyperglycemia model mice by administrating Lactobacillus plantarum SCS1(L. plantarum SCS1) was researched in the study.Meanwhile, glucose tolerance, content of K~+,Na+and Cl~- in plasma and content of glycogen were also studied. Sixty 3-week-old male KM mice in a SPF grade were divided into six groups randomly, including NG,MG,PG,TGL,TGM and TGH. NG mice were fed with MRS medium( 10 m L / kg body weight). PG mice were fed with concentration of 6. 0 ×109CFU/m L L. plantarum SCS1 suspensions from the second week to third week. MG mice were fed with sterile physiological saline(10 m L/kg body weight). TGL,TGM and TGH mice were fed with concentration of2.0×10~9,4.0×10~9and 6.0×10~9CFU/m L L. plantarum SCS1 suspensions(10 m L/kg body weight) respectively from the fourth week to the end of the experiments. The hyperglycaemia model were established with 1-week high diet plus with 70 mg/kg of STZ injection. The results showed that the blood glucose of TGH mice were reduced by high dose(6.0 ×10~9CFU/m L) fermentation broth of L. plantarum SCS1 significantly(p <0.05)compared with mice, and the preventive effect was not significant. Otherwise, the glucose tolerance of TGHmice were decreased by fermentation broth of L. plantarum SCS1 significantly(p<0.05),content of K~+ in plsma of TGH mice were increased, content of Na+and Cl~- in plasma and glycogen were decreased by fermentation broth of L. plantarum SCS1 significantly( p < 0. 05) compared with MG mice. These results suggested that L. plantarum SCS1 fermentation broth showed a hypoglycemic effect on hyperglycaemia model mice. Loss of K~+,increased Na+,Cl-in plasam and glycogen caused by hyperglycaemia were improved by L. plantarum SCS1 fermentation broth.
