Abstract
A new konjac product with a chitosan coating was prepared by konjac glucomannan particles and a solution of chitosan in aqueous acetic acid at room temperature. This product can keep excellent characteristics of konjac such as helping digestion and reducing the concentration of cholesterol in the blood. The properties were characterized by FT- IR. Adsorption performance for Pb2+and cholesterol was evaluated in solutions systematically.Batch experiments were conducted as a function of initial concentration, adsorbent dosage and contact time. The kinetic data were analyzed by the pseudo- first- order,pseudo- second- order kinetics. Also the equilibrium data were examined with the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. The results showed that the new product was characterized with functional groups of konjac glucomannan and chitosan. Adsorption at 37 ℃resulted in the maximum removal rate of 95.2% and 48.7% for Pb2+and cholesterol, respectively.Kinetics fitted with the pseudo- second- order model. Besides,Freundlich model conformed to the equilibrium data. The results suggested the product can be an effective adsorbent for Pb2+and cholesterol, and the adsorption reaction occurred on an uneven surface.
