The bioactivities of the phytosterols in foods and their pharmacological actions

  • Sterols are an essential component of cell membrane of both the animal and plant cell. Phytosterols in plant food play a significant role in the maintenance of healthy and the prevention of chronic diseases. In this paper,the relationship between chemical structures and bioactivitie is summarized. Phytosterol contents in Chinese plant food are introduced and their pharmacological actions are mainly expounded so as to guide the promotion of people to form a good dietary habits.
