Regulation of genes involved in metabolism of trehalose in edible Agaricomycetes and their applications in bioengineering

  • Trehalose,as a unique disaccharide, plays special protective role against external stress conditions and was widely distributed in archaea, bacteria, fungi, plants and animals. In this review, the physicochemical properties and biological characteristics of trehalose were introduced briefly and the metabolic pathways of trehalose biosynthesis and catabolism in edible Agaricomycetes were summarized. In addition, the research progress of the regulation of trehalose metabolism- related enzyme genes was described in details. The bioengineering applications of trehalose metabolism- related genes in edible Agaricomycetes were also discussed.
