Study on the effect of EGCG on the properties of fish skin collagen sheet

  • In order to get nontoxic crosslinking collagen sheet,EGCG was added to channel catfish skin collagen.Firstly, fish collagen was extracted from channel catfish skin. Subsequently,EGCG was added to collagen solution and collagen sheet. Physical properties and microstructural changes in the samples were analyzed using DSC,FTIR,XRD and SEM. Difference between collagen sheets modified by EGCG and glutaraldehyde were analyzed. The results indicated that EGCG could be used a modifier of formed collagen sheet. The glass transition temperature of collagen sheet by 0.075% EGCG was improved from 194℃ to 207℃. Simultaneously, the corresponding d value that represented the basal spacing of the samples decreased considerably from12.6373 to 11.9422 nm because of the EGCG added. The section of collagen sheets modified by EGCG was more compact compared to control. In conclusion,EGCG could be used to modify collagen sheet. This study provided some useful information for collagen modification by natural active substance.
