Study on purification and antioxidant activity of total saponins of gynostemma tea

  • Extraction,purification and antioxidant activity of the total saponins from gynostemma tea was investigated in the study. The total saponins was obtained with hot water extraction and then purified by D101 macroporous adsorption resin.In vitro antioxidant activities of the purfied fraction were characterized by DPPH free radical,hydroxyl radical and superoxideanion systems.The results showed that the crude extract of total saponins in gynostemma tea was 3.91%.After the D101 macroporous adsorption resin purification,the purity of total saponins increased from 26.2% to 83%.Besides,the sacvenging rate of the purified fraction to DPPH free radical,hydroxyl radical and superoxideanion were 92%,82%,73% at 4,3,3mg / m L,respectively. The purification effect of total saponins in gynostemma tea by D101 macroporous adsorption resin was proved to be very well,and the purified total saponins was also proved to have a good antioxidant activity.
