Research progress on the role of methyl jasmonate as signal molecules and application in fresh-cut fruits and vegetables

  • As a kind of phytohormone and signal molecule which was related to damage, methyl jasmonate could stimulate plant defense genes' expression and induce plants to produce chemical defense response. The artificial mechanical damage had adaptive response mechanism to damage stress in fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, the same as other adversity, which could cause increase of Me JA content, and thus induce a series of gene expression related to stress resistance, then enhance the resistance of plants. This article reviews the research progress on the role of methyl jasmonate as signaling molecule to improve cold and disease resistance of fruits and vegetables, especially the preservation and quality control of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables.
