Long term effect on diabetic rats of feeding resistant starch

  • Long term effect of resistant starch on diabetic rats were investigated, and groups among original resistant starch group and changed type of resistant starch group were compared. With corn, mung bean and pueraria resistant starch as material, added to feed diabetic rats 19 weeks, the variation of glucose, glycohemoglobin, glycon, GLP-1 and SCFA in intestinal contents were observed. The results showed that glucose of resistant starch groups were significantly lower that diabetic groups (p<0.01) . After 14 weeks, corn resistant starch group decreased by 23.5%, mung bean resistant starch group decreased by 28.5%. After 19 weeks, compared each resistant starch groups, corn resistant starch group had significant difference, mung bean resistant starch group had no significant difference. AUC of glucose tolerance, glycohemoglobin levels and hepatic glycogen content had significant difference among corn resistant starch groups (p<0.05) , mung bean resistant starch group had no significant difference (p>0.05) . GLP-1 content at 19 weeks had significant difference among corn resistant starch groups, mung beans resistant starch groups (p<0.01) , and the changed group were higher than the original resistant starch group. The content of SCFA in colon also had significant difference, such as propionic acid content in corn resistant starch groups (p<0.01) , and butyric acid content had a significant difference in two groups (p<0.05) .
