Study on antioxidant activity of constituents from Coptis chinensis

  • In order to study antioxidant activity of constituents from Coptis chinensis extracts, High Speed Counter Current Chromatography ( HSCCC) was applied to separate extracts from Coptis chinensis according to distribution coefficient. The content of polysaccharide was determined determined with phenol-sulfuric acid method, and the content of total polyphenol was determined with Foline-Phenol method. Antioxidant activity of constituents was further evaluated by the methods of eliminating mitochondria-ROS, DPPH·, O2-· and ·OH-.The result indicated different constituents showed antioxidant activity, extracts showed strong oxidizing ability of eliminating mitochondria-ROS and DPPH·, IC501.37mg·mL-1and 0.62mg·mL-1, respectively. Total alkali showed obvious scavenging ability of O2-·. It seemed that antioxidant activity of Coptis chinensis were the result of coaction of all constituents.
