Fatty acid composition of Portulaca oleracea seeds oil with GC-MS

  • The use of petroleum ether by Soxhlet get Portulaca oleracea seed oil. The extracted yield of Portulaca oleracea seed oil was 16.8%±0.13%. Fatty acids compositions were determined from Portulaca oleracea seed oil by saponification, methylation and GC-MS. The results indicated that the oil from Portulaca oleracea seed was composed of 7 fatty acids. The results of GC-MS and area normalization method showed that the Portulaca oleracea seed oil mainly contained Palmitic acid (12.00%±0.60%) , Linolenic acid (82.35%±0.64%) , Stearic acid (3.94%±0.10%) , 11-Eicosenoic acid (0.21%) , Eicosanoic acid (0.74%±0.05%) , Behenic acid (0.56%±0.03%) , Lignoceric acid (0.31%±0.03%) . While unsaturated fatty acids composition (82.56%±0.64%) from Portulaca oleracea seed oil were mainly composed of linolenoic acid. Experimental results indicated that the Portulaca oleracea seed oil was a kind of functional oil which had abundant n-3 unsaturated fatty acids, with high nutritional value and phanmcotherapy efficacy.
