Polymorphism of Myf6 gene and its correlation with meat quality traits in Bamei sheep and Small fat-tail sheep

  • Polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism ( PCR- SSCP) method was used to determine the polymorphism of myf6 gene in 102 Bamei sheep and 56 Small fat-tail sheep, the correlation between Myf6 gene and meat quality traits were analyzed in both breeds.Two genotypes were identified as AA and AB.The genotype frequencies were 0.63, 0.37 in Bamei sheep and 0.38, 0.62 in Small fat-tail sheep.Allele frequencies of A, B were 0.81, 0.19 and 0.69, 0.31 respectively.Polymorphism information content was 0.26 and 0.34 respectively.There was no significant difference between AA and AB genotype in meat traits in Bamei sheep.In Small fat-tail sheep, redness value had significant difference between AA and AB genotype in the Longissimus lumborum muscle ( p <0.05) .
