Study on the kinetics of oxidation of neoabietic acid using UV-VIS spectroscopy

  • The method was applied to the analysis of the mole quantities of neoabietic acid by UV Spectrophotometry. The kinetics of oxidation of neoabietic acid was investigated using a continuous experiment apparatus. Results and conclusions drawn were as follows. Firstly, plot of absorption (A1) against the mole quantity (n1) was linear:A1 =0.7390×106n1 +0.2403, in the mole quantity range of 0.6420×10-63.854×10-6mol. Secondly, the oxidation reaction was first order at 25, 30, 40, 50℃, respectively. The reaction rate constants were 0.0024, 0.0040, 0.0083, 0.0168min-1, respectively. Finally, the reaction activation energy was 61.39kJ·mol-1.
