Research progress in toxicity and detoxification of deoxynivalenol

  • Deoxynivalenol (DON) is the most widely distributed mycotoxin in B type trichothecenes, which is commonly found in polluted grain and animal feed, and shows danger to human and animals. The toxic effect of DON, including acute, chronic, carcinogenic, teratogenesis, mutagenesis and cellular toxicity was summarized.Detoxification methods of DON, involved physical methods on heat treatment, radiation and sorption, chemical method on ozone and chemicals treatments, biological method on microbiological treatment and genetic engineering that were also described. In addition, defects in current research were putted forward and the trend of development in future was discussed in this review.
