Experimental study on performance parameters of conical Canavalia cracker

  • The response surface methodology was used to design the experiments of the conical Canavalia cracker. The relationship model was obtained to describe the individual and cumulative effect of independent variables on the shelling performance response. The results of variance analysis showed that the cone speed and delivery gap had significant impacts on the shelling efficiency and percentage damage. The feeding speed had no influence statistically. The results illustrated that the cone speed made the strongest unique contribution to the shelling efficiency and percentage damage, followed by the delivery gap and feeding speed, respectively. It revealed that decreasing delivery gap or increasing cone speed resulted in increases in shelling efficiency up to a certain limit. The results also indicated a significant decrease in percentage damage with the increase of delivery gap or decreasing of cone speed. With optimization analysis, it was found that the best operation conditions were at feeding speed of 66.67mm/s, delivery gap of 17.5mm and cone speed of 6.1r/s.The following test confirmed that the optimized prediction model was correct and obtained shelling efficiency of 96.90% and percentage damage of 0.34%.The research results can offer important references for the structure optimization of conical cracker for Canavalia.
