Effect of Nano-SiO2 on suppression of plasticizers DOP migration from PVC

  • Nano-particles SiO2 was employed to curb DOP migration from PVC sheets.The DOP extraction rate, DOP volatilization rate, tensile properties and shore hardness of PVC samples were studied.The approaches of suppressing DOP migration were researched.The results showed that DOP migration can be resisted by addition of nano-particles SiO2 in soft PVC matrix.After PVC samples soaked with n-hexane, solvent extraction rate increases with the immersion time.Conversely, the rate of solvent extraction reduces.with the increasing of nano-SiO2 content.The addition of 5 phr nano-SiO2 reduced the DOP extraction (18.9 %) rate by 26.2% compared to the reference (25.6%) after immersing for 24h.Adding a little of nano-SiO2 could not reduce the volatilization loss rate significantly.The volatilization loss rate of containing differents amount nano-SiO2 lower than the control samples (without nano-SiO2) .The tensile strength and elongation at break of PVC reduced as the increasing content of nano-SiO2.The hardness of PVC was strengthened as the nano-SiO2.
