Effect of modified atmosphere packaging on physiology, biochemistry and fruit quality of Yali pears

  • Effects of modified atmosphere packaging ( MAP) storage on postharvest quality of Yali pears were investigated.Results showed that MAP storage increased the development of core browning of pears.At the end of storage, the core browning index was 78% higher in MAP group than in control fruit.Polyphenol oxidase activity was increased by MAP storage, and thus the content of total phenols in MAP group was significantly decreased during storage. Furthermore, MAP storage fruits showed lower activities of catalase and ascorbate peroxidase than control.Both malondialdehyde and hydrogen peroxide contents were higher in MAP group than those in control fruit.
