Antioxidant activity of polyphenolics extracted from the leaves and pomace of Rabbiteye blueberry (Vaccinium ashei reade)

  • 7 methods were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of Blueberry Leaves Polyphenols (BBLP) extract, Blueberry Pomace Polyphenols (BBPP) extracts and Rutin.The ABTS~+ scavenging activity, reducing power, nitrite scavenging activity, FRAP value, ORAC value of BBLP and BBPP extracts were higher than or equal with that of Rutin.However, the DPPH·scavenging acticity decreased in the order of BBLP>Rutin>BBPP, and the ·OH activity scavenging activity decreased in the order of Rutin>BBLP>BBPP.The nitrite scavenging activity and ORAC value of BBLP was equal with that of BBPP, and the ·OH scavenging activity of BBLP was weaker than that of BBPP.But BBLP exhibited stronger antioxidant activities than BBPP significantly (p<0.05) using other four methods.Results showed that both BBLP and BBPP possessed strong antioxidant activity, which could be used to develop natural antioxidants.
