Comparison of polysaccharide content and anti-oxidation activity in Polygonatum from four different regions

  • Objective:To compare the content of polysaccharide and its anti -oxidation activity in Polygonatum from Jiuhua shan Anhui, Wenzhou Zhejiang, Liupanshui Guizhou, and Dapanshan Zhejiang. Methods:Polygonatum polysaccharide was detected by phenol-sulfuric acid method after water extraction, ethanol precipitation and further purification. Then antioxidant activity of polygonatum polysaccharide was determined in vitro. Its effect on lipid peroxidation caused by hydroxyl radical was evaluated by MDA detection, and its inhibiting effect to superoxide radical was tested by pyrogallol autoxidation rate detection. Results:Our data showed that the percent of polysaccharide content was 22% in Polygonatum from Jiuhuashan. The generation of superoxide radical and hydroxyl radical were inhibited by Polygonatum polysaccharide. These inhibitory effects of polysaccharide from Jiuhuashan were better than those from other regions. Conclusion:The content of polysaccharide and its antioxidation activity in Polygonatum from Jiuhuashan were better than that from other regions.
