  • Objective:Evaluation of present research and clinical application of enteral nutrition for clinical reference. Methods:Domestic and foreign medical literatures in recent years were collected for evaluation and outlook of enteral nutrition from the course of development, the main purpose of the clinical application, classification and special nutrients. Results:Enteral nutrition was an important part of the inpatient postoperative nutritional support and an important means to supply patients with special nutritional requirements. Furthermore, enteral nutrition with special nutrients could recuperate immune and metabolic function of some specific patients. Conclusion:The intestinal played an important role in the stress response and critical illness. The primary purpose of enteral nutritional support was to reduce the incidence of organ dysfunction, further accelerate the restoration of the tissues, promote the patient’s recovery and improve clinical outcomes. In the future the nutrition and metabolism regulator will be used to prevent disease and improve illness. Nutrition support will become a major or minor disease treatment and has huge potential and application prospect.
