Study on the purification, separation and functions of polyphenol extractions by ultrahigh pressure from pomegranate peel

  • To ascertain the antioxidative and antimicrobial activities of polyphenol extracted by the ultrahigh pressure processing (UHPP) from pomegranate peel, based on purification by macroporous absorbent resin and separation by organic solvents, extracts and samples with different purity quotients and polarities were obtained and studied. The result showed that total polyphenol content of purification product was 77.40%, and the antioxidative and antimicrobial activities were improved significantly, HPLC showed that the types of polyphenol compounds were not changed after purification, the purification sample had been successfully separated by organic solvent, the yield of n-butanol phase attained to 55.28%, the sequence of total polyphenol contents in different extraction phases from highest to lowest was n-butanol phase>ethyl acetate phase>water phase, the sequence of antioxidative activity was ethyl acetate phase>n-butanol phase>water phase, the n-butanol phase had the highest antimicrobial activity which was significantly higher than water and ethyl acetate phase.
